It's pretty hard to describe this problem, but this is what is happening:
I tried to send a message to my wife through Siri on my Apple Watch. It prompted me if I wanted to sent it to "Mobile number" or "Mobile number". Naturally I figured this was caused by Apple's "bulletproof" iCloud syncing and me getting a new iPhone so I had to fix this later. I choose the first "Mobile number" option by touching it on screen (I tried to say it to Siri in an earlier instance, but that failed) and my message was sent. A sent a total of 3 messages this way.
Later I openend the Messages app on my Mac and iPhone and I noticed these messages were in a separate conversation from the main conversation with my wife. All the messages were sent as SMS messages (green bubbles, yuck). This is something I would have expected a few years ago, but Messages was working great for me the last 2 years or so.
It became weirder when I saw the conversation was with "Mobile number". I double checked and this was not a contact a had on either my iPhone or Mac. First thought: From the Messages app, add the info to my wife's contact card. After walking through the steps this didn't seem to do anything. I could again select the option to add the info to an existing card. So I tried to add it as a new contact. This didn't work as well. Then I noticed there wasn't a phone number when trying to create the new contact.
When tapping the i icon on the top right of the conversation I did get the option to call this contact and finally saw a number: 662435686637
A spoiler for non-dutch people, that is not what any of our phone numbers look like. Googling it only gives me a Chinese site that seems to have pages for any number up to a few billion or so.
So, I tried to remove the conversations from all the Apple Messages apps I have and tried to send a message through Siri again. But I still got the question "Mobile number" or "Mobile number".
Does anyone have any idea how to get out of this mess?
Note: I use iOS in Dutch, but translated all Dutch words to English for clarity to you guys.
