imessage! - Help, i need a walkthrough!

I just downloaded the free version of iMessage for my ipod touch. But I don't understand how to start it up.
First i open the program, and then it said that I have to add an template.. For the first: What is an template? I know, it's maybe a stupid question.. But I really need to know.

Can anyone give me an walkthrough for the app?

iMessage isn't an app you download and install from the App Store, it's built into the OS itself. There should be a "Messages" icon on your home screen, click on that and you can select people from your contacts list to send messages to.
