iMessage iCloud Sync deletes older messages?

I have a mac that uses iMessage now and I use this as my archive device where all my imessages will sync to the device. my iPhone will also get the same messages, but I actively clear the inbox there.

My question is with the new iOS 11 iCloud iMessage sync how will this play out on my devices? I hope it doesnt sync my phone and delete everything on my Mac.

Also, can you turn this feature off?

I don't know for a fact, but I would imagine you can turn this feature off.

On the other point, yes, deleting a message on one device would delete it on all devices using iMessages in the iCloud. I'm actually looking forward to that so that I don't need to do it separately on all devices.

If you have iMessage iCloud sync on and you delete a message, manually or automatically, it will disappear on any iOS 11 or macOS High Sierra system which also has iMessage sync on. I haven’t played with High Sierra but, chances are, if you go to the Messages app in High Sierra and go to Preferences you will be able to enable or disable iCloud sync there.

i think it will combine both messages and sync to iCloud.
