Hello.

I'm havig an iMessage issue I'm hoping someone can help resolve. I originally had an iPhone 6 and switched off iMessages as I didn't need to use it. When I upgraded to an iPhone 11, and restored my back-up from the 6 to the new phone, I didn't realise iMessage was automatically set to on. I must've received/sent some iMessages which I thought were standard SMS. When I realised this, I went into message settings and switched them off. Since then, I've recently realised that some people's messages haven't reached me. It's basically other iPhone users when they've sent me a message via iMessage.

Should they be able to send me iMessages if mine is switched off? Even if they did, shouldn't it just come through as an SMS? If anyone knows how I can fix this so I receive standard text messages and people can't send me iMessages, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

No, it will depend on their settings.

By default, the "Send as SMS" setting is off. Many people don't touch this setting. So if you suddenly went from being an iMessage user to being an SMS user, the sender won't be able to send you messages.
