iMessage Mass Freakout

So I was texting about five of my friends (individually) and all of the messages converted to SMS instead of iMessage. None of them signed out or changed their "send from phone number" settings. One had his phone number greyed out so he couldn't select it as his "send from" option.

Anybody else seeing this total iMessage freakout?

I haven't sent any group messages, but single messages seem to be working fine this morning.

maybe them or you have no data connection and only cellular service

I wouldn't call it a "mass freakout." If a single individual in the group has an issue with iMessage (probably the one with the greyed-out number), then the message has to be sent to all as SMS in order to keep that one person in the loop.
