I have a iPhone XR and my wife has a iPhone 11. Up until about a week ago we could sent photos to each other via iMessage. Now we both get messages saying sending failed, text come through no problem. We are both set up as family members and we both can receive photos from other iPhones and android phones. I did try all the suggestions I could find on Google. My next option is to wipe both phones but I really am trying to avoid that. My wife's iPhone does only have about 5GB of storage free and her 5GB of iCloud storage is full, could this be the problem? Desperately looking for answers or ideas to try.

Yes, that will be a problem. Data, such as images, are sent with iMessage through iCloud. With no space, the image will fail to send. Text messages are sent through the control block messages and do not use iCloud.

You can turn off iMessage for sending information. I am not 100% certain that images can still be sent. I think images can still be sent.

Second option is to pay $2.99 a month for 1TB of iCloud storage. That will allow the storage, and backup, of images and data on the phone. That storage can be shared among family members. My wife and I share on iCloud storage for $2.99. Her images filled up the free iCloud storage rather quickly. The $3.00 a month is highly recommended by myself but is a decision only you can make.

I think $2.99 is for the 200GB plan? The 50GB plan is also available for $0.99/month, which is generally enough for folks who use it for device backups and don't take a ton on photos (like me).
