iMessage on iPad?

Can you not use the same iMessage account with your iphone AND ipad? Do I really have to create a new email address just to use iMessage from my ipad?

You use your AppleID.

I login to my appleID account, then it wants me to enter an email address. When I type it in (which is diff from my appleID @Mac address), it errors:

Unable to verify email because it is already in use.

My apple ID address doesnt work either.

Weird. Works fine here, and conversations sync between the two.
