i have my Apple watch only a dew days now and have one issue which drives me crazy: Most of the times, I get iMessages Notifications on my iPhone about 5 seconds before I get them on the watch. So I feel the vibration in my pocket, count to 5 and then my watch is active.
I think the normal behavior shout be, that the iMessase notification is only on the watch as long as the iPhone is not active (=stand by).
My iPhone is in stand by, but the iMessae Notification wakes it up.
1 out of 10 tests, it works as it is supposed to (only watch notification). But the rest of the 9 tries, it behaves "wrong". Did you have the same issue, or better: A solution?
