My iiCloud account is something@gmail.com. I have created 2 email aliases (abc@icloud.com and xyz@icloud.com). When I go to my iPad Mini 3 or iPhone 6 Plus and accessed Settings --> Messages, I see that I can only use abc@icloud.com for iMessage, but not the other.

So in the Settings, I can use the following for iMessage:
- My phone number
- Primary account: something@gmail.com
- Email alias: abc@icloud.com

I cannot see xyz@icloud.com. When I attempted to add it manually, I got an error that iOS cannot verify the email.

Is there a limit on how many iCloud email alias you can use for iMessage? If yes, how do I switch the email aliase to use iMessage? I.e. use xyz@icloud.com instead of abc@icloud.com.
