iMessage Problem with apple ID

I m able to use iMessage but only with my phone number as sender i can t use my apple id as soon i type my id password it says it is wrong but it isn t have tried it on the itunes store etc...

Is this a general problem or iphone5 cause with my 4S it works i can chose which id i wanna use
