When i first downloaded iOS 8 GM i turned on imessage to activate it (along with other icloud aspects), received a few messages and then turned it off. I just see no benefit to using it and have never used it since owning an iphone. Anywho now whenever i go to send an SMS to people who previously messaged me on iMessage i am greeted with this error message "Cannot send Message - iMessage needs to be enabled to send this message". I have zero idea how to fix it but refuse to cave and use imessage. Help!

I don't know how to fix this, other than to suggest that you reset your network settings. But I have to know what your reasoning for not using imessaging is!
