Basically I want to know if this is possible, or if anyone else has had this happen.

Scenario:

Sent a message to a friend yesterday. Message said delivered within a few seconds and was marked as read about 10 mins later. Friend txts back about 30 mins after and when asked says they had just read the messages. That they had not read them at the time I received the read receipt 30 mins prior.

This happened again today. They said they had been away from their phone when the read receipt was sent. They also claim they didn't even get the message that was marked read.

I've heard of false "delivered"... But false "read?"

Is this even possible?

seems like something that cant be manipulated, kinda like BBM delivery receipts. sounds like the only thing false here is what your friend is telling you.

Does waking up the phone and reading the message in your lock screen constitute as being "read"? Or is it only once you actually open the message app and go into the thread?
