iMessage Slow with 2016 MBP 15"

I noticed that when iMessage is completely closed and I open it, it takes a solid 5 seconds. Small complaint but this never happened in my 2013 MBP 15". I noticed it also happens on demo units at the Apple Store. Has anyone figured out a fix of some sort besides just always keeping iMessage on? The app itself seems to drain my battery, and often switches my video to dGPU...
