iMessage stuck sending

When I have iMessage enabled, and the other user has an iPhone w/ iOS 5, it stays stuck sending (at about 95%).

When the user doesn't have an iPhone, it sends as an SMS just fine (although sometimes, there are periods of 5-10 min where it stays stuck)

When I turn iMessage off, it works fine.

But is there any way to get it to work with iMessage on?

I can't seem to send a pic using iMessage it will say delivered but they never get it but if I turn iMessage off it works just fine.

Do you have MMS enabled in Settings > Messages? You can't send photos via SMS (short message service). It has to go using MMS (media message service) - similar but not the same.

Yes I have MMS enabled.
