Is it true iMessage to iMessage is free anywhere in the world? I'm going to Canada for the weekend and want to only use iMessage. Is there a way to turn everything else off (email and phone) while keeping imessage available for free? I was hoping there was a cydia app for this?

iMessage needs either wifi or 3G to work. So you'd still need data.

not completely true. It uses a small amount of data but no "texting" charges. If you have access to WiFi or planning on picking up a prepaid card with data then you should be fine. I wish i knew the amount of data but its minuscule.

If you have access to Wifi then you an do Facetime also :)

Yep - I'm hopimg I have wifi in the hotel, but Im going down for the formula 1 races and expect to be at the track most of the day which I assume won't have wifi.

Isn't there a way to traick the iphone thinking it's on wifi? If there is, wouldn't it be free to send imessage through that?

Yes, 3G unrestrictor. But you can enable and disable that on an app by app basis, so you can turn it off for messenger.

Your carrier is what would charge you data. Tricking the /phone/ into thinking it's on wifi is useful for somethings, but unless it's on an actual wifi network, either iMessage won't work (no wifi, no cell coverage) or you will still get charged data from your carrier(no wifi, but cell coverage)

Wouldn't I want it turned on for messenger so it's not going through data?

No. 3G unrestrictor makes your device THINK it's on WiFi, when it's actually using the carrier's data. If your goal is to not use the carrier's data, this will have the exact opposite effect.
