I feel like the biggest idiot. I have an unlimited text messaging plan but I leave my iMessage on 24/7. Does that mean that when I'm not in a wifi area that my iPhone uses my LTE dat for
iMessage? ******! I feel like an idiot. Most of my family has iPhones so my phone automatically reverts to iMessage when I text them. Have I been using data the whole time? What do you guys do

iMessage does use your data plan.

It most definitely uses data, but the amount of data it uses per message is so small, you shouldn't see it accumulate by a lot unless you're sending thousands of iMessages.

You'll only see it eat up your monthly data allotment if you're sending a lot of pictures through LTE. That will definitely eat it up a bit faster than regular text based iMessages. You should be fine though.
