iMessage with same apple I'd?

So my wife has the iPad2 and I recently got the new iPad. We use the same apple Id so I don't have to repurchase apps, is there a way I can iMessage her with the same log on? Sorry if noob Qst, it's baby's first iPad

If you go into settings, then Messages, and then the Receive At option, it gives you the choice of putting in another email.

On my iphone, i use my phone number, on my ipad, my hotmail email.

As your both using ipads, your not going to have a phone number on either, so just changing the email address should work???
