Hello,

I am trying to setup my ipad and my iphone so that my imessages igoes to both iproducts consistently.

I have my ipad setup so that my imessages can be reased at my two main email addresses. I took off the x@me.com and the x@icloud.com addresses because i do not use them. (?)

I setup my iphone to have the same addresses...

but I can't get consistent behavior (i think). I would like it so that when i send a message or receive a message, it is updated on both idevices regardless of its origination.

Is this possible?

thanks,
r.

Under the Messages app, both devices need to be set up the same
Under "send and receive" same email addresses and same phone number

And very important... both need to have the same "start new conversations from" listed

it is so confusing...

...so i made sure they are setup as closely as possible to each other.
my iphone, however, is on ios 5.1.1 due to my reliance on google maps...

-i made sure my apple id was the same on both devices...

-on my phone i can be reached at my phone number, @me, and @gmail.

-on my ipad i can be reached at @personal domain, @gmail, @icloud, and @me

-on my ipad, i start new conversations from (i have the same four options as where i can be reached) which one do i use?

thanks!

It's really not that confusing.

Receive at all addresses on each device, but start conversations from only one address on each device. How else would it sync otherwise if you aren't using the same address to send from?

i do not see the option on my iphone to send from a particular address. is this because it is on 5.1.1?

Wirelessly posted

ID unification happens w/iOS6 & OSX 10.8.2 (for iMessage on Macs).

After you upgrade, turn iMessage OFF on all devices and then turn them all back on before doing the settings steps mentioned above.
