What i'm proposing is if you get a text to your iPhone, the iOS automatically sends that text message to all your other iOS (and mac) devices via iMessage. Also, if you send an iMessage to a non-iMessage phone, the iMessage would be relayed through your iPhone (if sending from mac, iPod, iPad) and sent as a text. This way you can have conversations with people on non iOS devices via text message from your mac, etc.

Seems like it is plausible, any thoughts?

I would LOVE for something like this to be built in natively.

As it stands, even iMessage works poorly (parts of conversations are out of order, sometimes the last message is not displayed e.g.). Hopefully Apple will iron those bugs out.

I am hoping there will be something for jailbroken devices that syncs non-imessages. I made a script that does it for me but it is not elegant at all.

Certainly this isn't out of the question and probably wouldn't be too difficult to engineer... but honestly, I think it's all about money and advertising.

When someone doesn't have an iPhone, it's easy to tell them, 'hey, you should get one. We can use iMessage and it's free and works over Wi-Fi and syncs across your devices'. But the second it becomes convenient for you that they don't have an iPhone, that thought never particularly crosses your mind. So your friends/family never get that direct recommendation to purchase an Apple device, ya' know?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it too since I know plenty of people who don't have iPhones and I'd love more than anything to respond from my Mac, but the current iMessage setup is probably more important to sales than we realize.
