So I received my replacement 6S today (had a loose mute button on the first) and while it's great physically, for some reason my restore from iCloud Backup transfers photos, apps, contacts and voicemails, but not iMessages or my recent phone calls. I've tried twice now with no luck and just finally did an iTunes back and restore and it appears to have worked. My iMessages are moved over.

So my question is, can I trust future iCloud backups, or is this a common bug/issue?

Same thing happened to me; when i did restore from my 6S backup, everything restored except my messages and call history. If i do restore from my old iPhone 6 backup, everything is there.

I am talking to tech support about it and they have no clue about this issue (or pretend to have no clue as they always do). Seems like iCloud bug as you mentioned iTunes backup/restore works. I will try iTunes later today but this issue needs to be fixed.

Something about iOS9 has broken iCloud backups and they seem to cause more problem than before.

I tried it twice from my iphone 6s to 6s+ and had the exact same issue. Beware some of the data for apps will be corrupt or will not carry over also I found out. What I did was restore my iphone 6S+ from my iPhone 6 and it is fine. There is something going on with backups from a 6S(+) to a 6S(+)

I originally restored my 6S from my 6 and everything transferred fine. Last night I got the 6S plus and restored from my 6S backup. After trying twice the messages, phone call logs will not transfer to the 6S plus. Also I noticed some of the apps lost their settings and I got a corrupt data base on some apps. Spotify totally lost its settings of which playlists I download offline. I then decided to wipe my 6S(+) and restore it from my 6(non S) backup and it is fine. I am now seeing other posts on this forum where people are having the same issue. We can use this a the main thread for this topic. Feel free to recommend better wording for the subject.

This will become a problem for people swapping out for a defective phone or moving from 6S to 6S(+) or vice versa. I have only done this wirelessly. Have not tested cabled to iTunes.

Thanks

Yes i do see data corruption on few apps like whatsapp when i did restore from my 6S+ backup.

i think for now safe bet is to make sure we have good backup on itunes and use that if we need to restore.

Agree but I only see the issue when going from the S models of the 6. Going from a 6 to 6s(+) is not an issue.
