Imovie 06 (amount of clips)

I have just imported some mini dv's into imovie 06, and i left it to import. when i came back and opened the file, as the file opens and the little window comes up with the loading bar, the clip number on this goes up to 140, HOWEVER when the imovie project opens i only have 60 clips! and alot of the footage is missing. This has happened with 2 others, one of which only had 60 clips again and the other had 61. both of them had missing footage. why has this happpened, and what has happened to all of my clips.??
