iMovie '06 encoding to QuickTime - Seems Long?

Hi,

I just wanted to verify something.

I imported 50 minuted worth of non-HD raw DV movie from my video camera into iMovie '06. It is about 10 GB.

I wanted to export all of the clips into an QuickTime file of about 720x480, H.264 compression, high quality, multipass, frame rate 24.

After over an hour it still said it had 183 minutes left and was still in compression mode.

Does that seem reasonable to you? The specs for my machine is in my signature.

While it may not sound reasonable it does sound pretty normal. Any transcoding like that takes a BUNCH of time. Even other standalone apps like Handbrake may take three hours to convert an hour's worth of video at essentially the same settings and with only SINGLE pass selected.

So, reasonable? Not really. Believable? Yes!
