Hi after a few months of fiddling around with MPEG streamclip amongst others to get imovieHD to work with my JVC HDD camcorder, I took the plunge somewhat blindly and bought ilife 08 holding onto the words 'it supports most video cameras'. The people at the store weren't sure and the support site doesn't state my camera as a supported model, though it does have the newer models in the family. I took my camera along to a store and plugged it into a fresh new imac and....... and.......nothing. Undetered and with money burning a whole in my pocket I bought ilife anyway. At home I plugged camera in and again nothing only iphoto booted up. I think it recognised the camera as a still camera so I disabled the auto import feature. I left things alone and then as if by magic a pane popped up in imovie saying camera found scanning for clips - the words JVC everio - HDD at the bottom of the window. Around 30secs later the import window popped up with thumbnails of the video on the camera. It was just a case then of dragging the wanted clips into the project window. It looks imovie 08 does support the JVC everio earlier models and I suspect the reason for it not working was something to do with the iphoto thing. The path I follow is as follows turn camera on, plug into USB allow it to mount then start imovie and wait for the magic to happen. Happy HDD video editing:)

Hi after a few months of fiddling around with MPEG streamclip amongst others to get imovieHD to work with my JVC HDD camcorder, ...
Congratulations on finally having your camcorder supported by Apple. In case it is not clear, with iMovie 7.0 (aka iMovie '08) Apple has decided to support the camcorders that people are actually buying. Since it has become nearly impossible to convince people to buy cameras that record in editable formats, Apple has made the non-editable formats editable.
