Where is the drag and drop goodness from iMovie 06?
...
and every other program!?
I had been assuming .mov wasn't supported in iMovie because I couldn't just drag and drop the clips.
I finally found out that I'm wrong. In order to import clips you actually have to go into the File Menu and select "Import Movies..."
following this it'll ask you a bunch of stupid questions. Ratio? Size? How about you just use what I selected for the project you stupid thing... that's what iMovie 06 always did.
After this I was amazed... I got a progress bar! Furthermore, I couldn't do anything else until it finished! What the heck happened to iMovie '08 being instant!?
I swear, did upgrading to '08 really do any good? Let's just run through this list...
- Less intuitive. No drag and drop support.
- More difficult to find files. It won't just give you a list of all your clips. Instead they're buried in several layers of folders. Furthermore, there's no search field. (Oddly enough though, you get a search field still for finding music and pictures. How is it someone remembered to put that in but neglected the option of searching through the main things you're going to be putting into iMovie... movies.)
- Few transitions. And the ones they have are lame. I swear, it's not any faster... they simply got rid of the transitions that took time to render.
- Few titles.
- No effects.
- More pointless dialogs.
3X Edit: Ok... apparently there's something wrong with my files...
the issues I listed in the first and second edit appear to be the result of a corrupt file or something... but the stuff I originally posted are some real issues.
4X Edit: OK, I've used it again... 2 weeks after originally posting this. The program is actually really cool when it works. The only issue I still have is my originally mentioned fact that you can't simply drag and drop files into iMovie '08 like you could in iMovie HD... instead you have to go into a drop down menu and choose "Import Movies..."
