In iMovie 08 in 4:3 mode it records everything I see in the screen. When I don't set it to do 4:3 and it does widescreen it cuts things off the top.

The problem is when I'm doing an instructional video or a review of a product I don't know what is going to get cut off and what is not. Why did Apple set it up this way? Is there a way for it to only show what it is recording?

If not I guess I can only record in 4:3 mode, but it would be nice to be able to upload to youtube in widescreen.

Umm the reason it cuts off the top and bottom is because it needs to maintain the widescreen ratio.

I don't have a problem with that. But it would make it capable to actually use that if it only showed what it was recording. Instead when you are giving a demonstration you find out 1/2 way into the video parts of it were cut off. Why show what it is not recording?

Is there other software out there that only shows what it is recording?
