iMovie 09 Forcing Graphics Needed

If i am importing movies into imovie 09 on my new mbp it wont work unless i switch the graphics card using the gfxcard status?

if i import using the intel hd nothing comes up but when switched to nvidia it imports - vice versa with nvidia doesnt work but then intel hd does?

is this a problem with imovie, gfx card status, or a bug? thanks for help its annoying having to keep going in to import, change graphics, new folder etc

update : now it is only letting imports occur with intel hd?
