iMovie 09 movies (events+projects) stored on external HD not showing in Media Browser

I have a problem. All of my iMovie files are stored on an external HD formatted as MacOS Extended. None of these movies can be seen on media browser however. When I move a project or event to my main volume (Macintosh HD), they do appear in Media Browser. Is there a way to get Media Browser to see the files stored on an external volume? Any help is appreciated!!
