I'm a long time iMovie user. Never liked 08 and still use 06. I've read 09 fixes most of 08's wrongs. Does the new Video Stabilization feature really work? Does it degrade the quality? I'm guessing even if so, it might make an otherwise unwatchable clip salvageable? And is the effect extremely taxing, ie how long does it take to process?

Yes, it works, but I wouldn't say that it is good enough to make an unwatchable clip watchable. It's OK for small vibrations/movements, but with any wild movements the detail is probably not going to be on the video for iMovie to sort it out.
