This is a problem I've been having probably ever since Mavericks: often times, the sound will not play in the project timeline (or whatever it's called where you do the editing). Sound plays for clips in the Library, and sound effects play - but not in the timeline/editor. It used to be that I could futz with it, clicking here and there and back to the timeline/editor and get the sound working again for a while. But now, I can never get the sound to play.

Any ideas? Here's my hardware overview:

Model Name: iMac (mid-2011 27")
Model Identifier: iMac12,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 3.4 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 8 MB
Memory: 16 GB
Boot ROM Version: IM121.0047.B1F
SMC Version (system): 1.72f2

And I'm running the 10.10 release of Yosemite.
