iMovie '11 - Constant Spinning Beach Ball

I've read the Apple Support forums and other sites and still can not find a solution for my iMovie issue.

It takes 15-30 minutes for iMovie to launch. Then at random times using the app, typicaly when I do file type operations, I get spinning beach ball.

I've trashed prefs, removed all iPhoto videos, repaird permissions, removed some projects. Nothing seems to work.

I guess I have to remove projects and/or events one at a time to see if there is one that is causing the issue.

Just wondering if anyone has advice? I'm on latest Lion and iMovie and an iMac Core i5 with 12GB RAM.

Has this been a problem since day 1 or did it start happening after a certain point? Can you remember when it started happening and target that particular event/project and see if anything changes? I've never encountered this problem before, are there any other programs on your computer that also lag? If so, then it could be a hardware/system issue rather than just iMovie.
