iMovie 11 cropping trouble

In iMovie when I place a clip into the project from the events browser the cropping changes. When I place the clip into the project the cropping changes from when I set it to fit in the events browser showing the whole size of the clip. I wonder if its just changing the resolution of the project or something? Oh well this is been really confusing.
