imovie 11 export file size problem

Hi guys
I have exported my finished movie and saved it in 3 formats
1/ mov 720 = 442 MB
2/ mp4 = 449.8 MB
3/ wmv = 147 MB

I transferred the mp4 to my old windows laptop and converted it with freemaker and it is perfect.
My problem is that I uploaded the wmv version fine but the mp4 has been going 2 hrs now and is only 35% complete

Can I compress it at export stage ?
When I saved the mpeg version , I did put the bit rate up to 16000 as advised

help please
