So I converted a m2ts to a mp4 and edited it in iMovie.

I now want to export it as a mp4, at the same quality it was after converting it. So basically two questions...

1) Can I export to mp4 from iMovie?
2) How do I keep it the same quality?

I don't use iMovie, so I can't help you export.

If you save as a basic QuickTime (.mov) file however, it's fairly easy to convert to another format using MPEG Streamclip. It's free, and it works great.

Good luck!

I keep trying all sorts of different settings, but it keeps coming up saying it will take 8 hours to export. That can't be right, can it?

video

I would export at as a .mov

full hd size, high bit rate etc.

make this your master movie for archiving

then take it into handbrake and compress to an .mp4

Depends on how long your program is. The 8 hours mostly show up at the beginning of the process. Especially, when you have titles and stuff. It'll be faster later on.
