I have a Canon HV30, which is 1080i (though I understand tape cameras like this produce 1440x1080 rather than 1920x1080). I import to iMovie, send to the media browser, and use iDVD to make DVDs. My family all have CRTs, though that will obviously change at some stage in the future, so I want the DVDs I make now to be optimised for that.

I import at Large setting (I've read plenty of advice in its favour, and none to the contrary).

Now, in iMovie 9 I sent to media browser at HD (1280x720) without thinking. HD sounded good. After all, my camera shoots in HDV.

Now in iMovie 11 I get the option to send at HD 720p and HD 1080p. That got me in research mode, and now I'm so confused I've forgotten my name.

I'm capturing at Large (which I believe is 960 x 540) which limits the source data to begin with. So shouldn't I send to media browser at Large, too? Sending at 720p would require upscaling of some sort, wouldn't it? Wouldn't that inject artifacts into the finished movie? Even if I play the DVD on a HDTV in the future, the source is still only going to be 960 x 540 so how would exporting any higher help?

Can any pros out there explain in simple terms to a simpleton? Basically, should I send to MB at Large (960 x 540) or HD (1280 x 720), given that I'm importing at Large? Will there be a visible difference on a CRT or HDTV?

Any informed advice would be very appreciated.
