iMovie 11 startup is very slow

I have iMovie 11 on my iMac with 1TB HD and 8G of RAM with Mountain Lion OS.

Everytime I launch into iMovie application it takes about 6 minutes to load. I wouldn't think this is normal. I've repaired disk as other forums have advised and no issues there. Can someone please provide some additional insight?

I have loads of images and videos on iPhoto but wouldn't think this would be an issue.
