Imovie 5.0.2 interlacing on imported mov file

I have bought Videoglide software and dongle (http://www.video-2-mac.co.uk/?gclid=CPuWjfLPs6ECFVVo4wodHBq3-A) to import from VHS to my Mac G5 Dual 1.8 with 4.5gb ram and running OSX 10.4.11. I am using iMovie 5 as I find it infinitely more user friendly than 8.0.6 on my Intel machine. Videoglide captures a smooth stream and saves it as an MOV file. I then have to import it into iMovie. Once imported the interlacing screams. Anyone have any idea why this happens and how I can prevent it?
