iMovie 6 HD - Fixing pilar boxing problem

Hello,
I've created a 16x9 (widescreen) project in iMovie 6 HD and then imported a 16x9 DV video from a DV camera. For some reason iMovie added black pillars and my 16x9 video looks squished and now has 2 useless vertical black bars on either side.

I no longer have the original tapes so I can not import again. What can I do to just stretch the video back. I know it is not ideal for image quality but I am stuck. Any way I can streatch it back to fill the 16x9 screen?

EDIT: solution found: Used MPEG Streamclip to crop and save it again.
