I am having a challenge with using transitions. I have found that if I use the Overlap transition between scenes, the audio transitions okay. If I use Cross Dissolve, I hear audio being repeated from the first clip. I have also found that no matter what ending transition I use, I get repeated audio as the Fade Out or Wash Out occurs. It takes around the last 1 second of audio and repeats it as the transition happens. This is really really annoying.

Can you all suggest any work arounds? I apologize if I did not describe this problem accurately enough. I had a hard time finding info on this by Googleing, because I am not really even sure what the problem is called. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Work-around found

I played with this a little bit, and I think I have found a decent work around. If I right click on the timeline to view the audio volume levels, I found that when I transition, I can lower the audio, then raise it when the transition is complete. I actually like the effect it creates and it makes it easier when I am transitioning a scene with a lot of background noise or music.

Anyway, I still am curious to know if there a setting I am missing. Why does the transition cause the audio to repeat? Is it something that I am doing wrong?

I have the exact same problem, both with cross dissolve and with fade out. The only (lame) workaround I could find is to run a Graphic EQ on the entire audio (thereby creating a second audio track). I then do all the effects on the first track and mute it.

same problem

I have the same problem...very annoying!!...but thank you for the problem solver...I did the audio stripping and I could fade the sound that way no problmem.:)

You're running into a problem of inadequate handles. If there is not enough space on either side of the joined clips (handles), you're going to get audio repeat. To avoid this, just chop a few more seconds off the end of the clip to give the transition a little more room.

When I first started editing, I ran into the same problem. And this isn't just a problem with iMovie HD. Even in Final Cut, you have to have adequate handles on clips before doing any transitions.

You could always do the volume workaround, but it may just be better practice to get used to handles now, just in case you decide to upgrade to FCE or Final Cut Pro in the future. Also, keep handles in mind when you're shooting and keep the camera rolling for a few additional seconds.

I've been having this issue too and I've been wondering what it is. I will try to do the spacing thing and see if that works.
