iMovie 9 issues

Hi all
Im new to this forum and hope Im in the right area to ask these questions.
Apparently to download iMovie 9 I need to purchase it from eBay or Amazon. I am running macOS Sierra.
Has anyone out there gone down this road before?
If I have iMovie 8.0.6 already on my system can I not just download all the patches from 8.0.6 thru to 9.0.9 which is where I want to be in the end, or are there going to be OS issues along the way?

Advice would be greatly appreciated

No. You have to have iMovie version 9(which is commonly referred to as iMovie 11, as it came with iLife 11) to install the v9 updates. This is not the same as iMovie 09(version 7), which came immediately after iMovie 08. See here for clarification:

You would have to install iLife 11 to get iMovie 11.
