iMovie and Digital camera movies

Is it possible to edit the movies off of a basic digital camera like a Canon SD 300 in iMovie? anything specific needed? No formats of files having to be transfered to other formats etc?

I want to tinker with iMovie, make a few little projects but don't have a movie camera, in fact I don't even have a digital camera yet.. but I will be getting the consumer SD 300 4.0 MP which can make high quality 30-60 FPS video that can fit the entire memroy card. Wanna know if these video can work in iMovie?

Don't know about Canons but I got the small movies off of my Kodak through iPhoto and then dragged them into iMovie to play around. In one word, it was seamless. For me, it was just a case of drag-and-drop.

Well, I'm using iLife '05 but I'm pretty sure most versions of iMovie will let you work with still camera videos. Any earlier version of iPhoto will not let you import video from a camera but you probably (hopefully) got software from Canon that will allow this.
