I started using imovie just yesterday, and yet I am thinking of changing my field from engineering to movie making

When we create an imovie project and download from camcorder, does it make any backupfiles or does it store any files in some folder other than what we created.
I am asking this because as I downloaded from my camcorder, my hard drive is fuller by 2-3 GBs. And the project I created is not even taking 1 GB.
I created one more project last night, exported it and deleted the project folder. Do I have to clean up some other places as well?
