Finally. You can render videos in iMovie in the background using Stage Manager. Typically when using iMovie, the app has to be front and center (it doesn’t support Split View) and treated like a faberge egg. Meaning, pulling down control center or really any action will cause iMovie to disengage. An annoyance to say the least, especially if almost done with an export.
Now with stage manager, one can use iMovie as it exports while browsing say safari or another app. There are some caveats though. You can’t minimize that group of apps and come back to it. iMovie will disengage. Also, closing any app inside the group will also cause it to disengage. But hey. Baby steps.
