I'm using iMovie to add some simple titles to a video. Seemed like a reasonable thing to do.

But, when I hint the movie with Quicktime Pro or iMovie, upload it to an Xserve and watch the resulting video stream, the audio has lots of loud pops which makes it impossible to listen to. If I don't use iMovie, I do not get these pops from the same video source.

It's quite frustrating. Does anyone know:

- what's causing these audio defects? I've tried different "share" settings.
- what I can use instead of iMovie (for free) to add titles?

Is your video source from a DV cam or another clip. If it is a clip such as .AVI or .MOV, the problem could be with the recompression of an already highly compressed source.

If you are on an older system there is this article on iMovie support:

Avid also has a free DV product you can try:

Do you get the popping when you play your final movie on your originating computer or only after you stream it from the xserve?

Yeah, compressing&streaming an already compressed source was my theory, yet it only happens when passing through iMovie. The original clips don't appear to have this problem when hinted with quicktime pro or QTSS Publisher.

Let me check those links. I appreciate your suggestions.
