iMovie audio and video are not in sync

I can see it when I record and when I play back. The video lags behind the audio for most of the video, and does so on 90% of the videos I create.

I'm recording from iMovie 11 9.0.4, using my built-in camera on my MacBook Pro 10.6.8. It began just a couple months after I got my laptop (a year ago) and seems to be getting worse. I notice it when I'm fully charged or not, when the fan is running or not, when I'm plugged in or not (I wasn't sure if any of this matters but after watching, apparently it does not). I've tried detaching the audio. I think it's worked once, but not usually.

I've Googled like mad. It seems to be a common issue. Is there a solution?

I am having the EXACT same problem and have searched for a solution so many different ways and no one seems to have the answer. So frustrating!!!
