Currently have a 2019 MacBook Pro and noticing when I export an iMovie file it doesn't seem to be utilizing the Blackmagic eGPU during the process. Is there any way to verify if it is being used by the program, or any settings to verify?

Unfortunately the "Prefer external GPU" option is not available for both iMovie and Final Cut in the info settings.

Current setup is:
MacBook Pro (clamshell mode) --thunderbolt 3-> eGPU (hub) --HDMI-> external monitor

I know this is an older post, but maybe someone has a solution.

With macOS Catalina at least you can select the GPU tab in the Activity Monitor. I have not figured out how to get iMovie to use the eGPU when exporting. It uses the internal GPU and the "Prefer External GPU" or whatever the setting in the finder for applications is not available for iMovie.

I've seen a number of posts online with people asking how to get iMovie to use an eGPU, but none have a solution. It seems to be a pretty important thing to me.
