iMovie chopping video

Hi, when I'm editing video in iMovie and when I make video faster (normal speed is ok) and preview it in iMovie, It's really not smooth. I had 4gb ram, so I updated thinking that it will resolve my problem. But It didn't. Video is from GoPro Hero (basic model). Is it because my mac can't handle that? But it's so odd, that an ipad can. Thank you.
