I recently got a screen recorder software for my windows computer (BB flashback) in the export you can export it as a flv which doesnt work with i movie or as an avi and i was wondering which codecs from avi does imovie work with and are the codecs free to download for windows?

iMovie compatability?

There are no codecs for the AVI container, that work with iMovie, as the AVI container does not work with iMovie.
Either export it as MP4 using the H.264 codec or as MOV using the Apple Intermediate Codec.
Or export it in the best possible quality and then transcode it via MPEG Streamclip to an iMovie compatible format.
