iMovie export problems

I have a PAL movie project in iMovie that I am trying to export to either 800*600 or 640*480 QuickTime. However, no matter what setting I try to use, the resulting quality is horrible. Although it appears fine in the iMovie preview pane, the exported QT file has pixellated titles, and keeps up this behavior no matter what. Any ideas?
