Warning - I'm a newby.

I have an issue with the exported file size of movies made in iMovie 11. I import a mov file that appears to be about 800 x 600 made in QT format that is 48meg. It is one hour and six minutes. I create a project with one hour and three minutes of the event. I choose export movie and select medium. The file size doubles and the screen size gets smaller. I tried export with quicktime and file sizes are at least double. Is this normal? Can I rein in the file size and still keep the quality close to the original. All I'm doing is removing two minutes from the start, one from the end and boosting some of the audio.

If this is normal for iMovie can any of you video experts recommend an alternative application. I tried the same thing with Camtasia on my Windows PC and I ended up with a 39 meg file with very good results. But I really want to do it on my MBP.
