I just compiled some of my very old home videos into iMovie (took over 2 days) and the whole project is a whopping 4 hours and 11 minutes long. Obviously, I want to save this on my hard drive. I do not need to burn it so dvd is out of the question.

I have tried using Share ––> Export --> Media Browser --> Large. The whole process took just about 5 hours to produce an error at the end stating "the project is too long."

Can anyone advice on how I can go about saving this project? I really need to make a .mp4 or .mov out of this and cannot start over in another application as a lot of work has already been put in it. Thanks.

Try using the Export option in the File Menu(I think, not at a Mac at the moment). You can then export to Quicktime. Can't think why it's telling you that the Project is too long though.
